Nose piercing is the piercing of the skin or cartilage which forms any part of the nose, normally for the purpose of wearing jewelry; among the different varieties of nose piercings, the nostril piercing is the most common. Nose piercing is one of the most common varieties of piercing after earlobe piercing.
That is the standard definition.
At Body Pleasure Piercing we have found through our years of experience that piercing the cartilage in the nose is generally quite painful and may take a long time to fully heal.
We overcome this problem by making sure all our staff are trained in the anatomy of the nostril and that they know how to place a nostril piercing correctly so as NOT to pierce the cartilage but to only go through the very soft tissue between the platelets of cartilage in the nostril. This skill allows us to place the piercing where it will be hardly felt at all when done and it will heal in a considerably shorter amount of time to one that has penetrated the cartilage.
Cartilage is semi formed bone and does not have the ability to heal itself or regenerate - once it has a hole in it then the hole stays this means that piercing throught he cartilage generally scar worse as well so we are very careful at Body Pleasure Piercing to ensure that you get only the best possible nose piercing which will leave a minimal to no scar when/ if removed.
There is some History around Nose piercing and something that fascinated me when I read it was that the American Indians used Nose piercing as a sign of Marriage..one side signified that a girl was available and both sides meant she was married. It was also thought that nose piercing had a theraputic affect on PMT (Pre Menstrual Tension) and could in fact reduce the severity and flow of menstruation. There is not evidence to say that this is medically correct however, some of our clients have noticed some improvement after having the piercing. They may have been on to something?
The main thing with Nose piercing is to make sure it is done correctly and placed in the safest and most gently area so as not to cause damage to the cartilage and to heal quickly leaving less chance of infection.
