Horizontal Hood

The horizontal hood was in the 1980’s and early 1990’s a lot more popular than the verticle one because it could be done with a Bead ring or ball closure ring and the bead could sit on the clitoris to give stimulation to the wearer. However, this piercing only really works well if the woman […]

Female Genital Piercings

There are a number of different Female Genital piercings and these have been done for centuries however, there is not a lot of documentation about these. These became popular in the B&D and S&M scene and the adult porn industry from the 1960’s and 70’s and by the 80’s they were becoming a little less niche and more people were getting them. By the 1990’s we were doing a lot more female genital piercings in Australia and the benefits of extra sensitivity and increased orgasms was definitely an attractive factor. Then the internet started to scare people with lots of stories about lost sensation. There is in fact very little risk of that happening, as I always explain to clients, when the piercing is first done the sensation in the area may triple and for the first few days to a week it is amazing and then as the piercing heals and settles down and the body becomes accustomed to the new adornment that burst of increased sensation fades and it is generally more sensitive than previously but not as much as it was initially. This does not mean a loss of sensation, I explain it is like when you wear a watch on your wrist, when you first put it on you are aware of it and notice it all the time and then your body accepts it and becomes accustomed to it being there and then you suddenly find that you have forgotten it is on your wrist because you don’t feel it anymore. However, when you look at it and want to know if it is there you can make yourself aware. This does not mean you have lost sensation or feeling in your wrist it simply means your body has accommodated to the item. The same happens with Genital piercings. There are so many nerves in that area to damage all of them from a piercing would actually be quite difficult. In saying that these are not piercings that should be done by the inexperienced or untrained and I have seen some really badly placed genital piercings that do not have any benefit to the wearer at all.

No genital piercings should be done with thinner than a 1.6mm or (14ga) as it can tear and cut the soft tissue in the area. We have seen some awfully placed clitoral hood piercings with 1.2mm 16ga bars that really do nothing at all for the wearer and are at high risk of tearing out.

Christina

The Christina piercing is placed at the bottom of the ‘V’ of the mons pubis where the outer labia meet at the top. It is more of a modern piercing and started in the early to mid 1990’s women had begun to be more self aware and it became increasingly popular for women to shave and decorate this area.

This piercing is somewhat like a navel piercing and can be done with a jewelled navel stud which looks very attractive. However, this piercing can be hard to heal and can reject depending on the anatomy of the person and placement. If a woman is larger and carries some extra weight then the mons can bulge over the area slightly and many piercers will tell them that they do not have the correct anatomy for this piercing. At Body Pleasure Piercing we have found that this is untrue and that the use of a flexible bar makes it not only possible but it can also help it to heal easily. There are also bars shaped especially for this piercing in titanium. Once healed jewelled navel bars can often be worn or bars with crystals etc.

In 2019 this is a common piercing to do and many women enjoy the look of it. The Christina piercing can put a little bling in an area that many women feel self conscious of.

Clitoral Hood (C.H.)

In the late 1980’s this was generally done with a very small barbell with small balls for example a 1.6mm(14Ga) bar 6mm to 8mm long with 3mm balls. And was placed to sit with the small ball at the back behind the hood and the other at the front so a very short bar was used. This was found to be difficult to do up and place and was purely aesthetic, as it did not rub on the clitoris at all.

In the 1990’s with the availability of the curved bar and the jewelled navel bar and the realisation that if placed so the bottom ball sat on the clitoris it created a pleasurable stimulation, and was less invasive than piercing the clitoris. The vertical hood piercing became really popular because they were functional and looked good.

The hood is easily pierced and numbs very well. At body pleasure piercing we use a local anaesthetic spray to numb the area and because the mucus membrane absorbs the anaesthetic very well it is one of the least painful piercings. Because the Clitoral hood is thin and when done correctly it passes through a very small amount of skin meaning that it heals really quickly. It can be healed in a matter of just a few days.

When people ask why should they get this piercing my reply is always, “It gives him somewhere to go and something to do when he gets there.”

Inner Labia

As with many other piercings the labia piercing is one that has been done throughout history in many tribes and cultures. In the 1970’s and 1980’s the B&D and S&M scene and the adult porn industry made these piercings popular. Some tattoo artists used adult porn videos to teach themselves how to pierce as these were the only videos available showing piercings being done, mostly the extreme porn sections.

By the 1990’s these piercings were starting to be done by mainstream society and those who were considering the Clitoral hood but had reservations about it would get the inner labia as a sort of trial run.

At Body Pleasure Piercing we have found that when doing multiple inner labia it is best not to do them directly opposite each other as they can rub on each other and cause irritation and we will generally stager them so that they sit comfortably.

These piercings do make the area around the piercing slightly more sensitive but not a lot they are more aesthetic for the wearer and depending on ring size they can be stimulating for the partner.

In the 1990’s Wildcat brought out intimate buttons which were designed as domed bars to sit on the inner labia and rub on the male during intercourse. The inner labia stretch easily and so larger gauges tend to be more comfortable.

In 2019 these are not the most popular piercing as most women are more inclined to get the clitoral hood piercing.

Outer Labia

As with many other piercings the outer labia piercing is one that has been done throughout history in many tribes and cultures. In the 1970’s and 1980’s the B&D and S&M scene and the adult porn industry made these piercings popular. These were often used as a form of infibulation (chastity) and with body jewellery not easy to get often padlocks were used in these piercings. These were also used to hang “dog tags” on to signify possession in the B&D scene and so can have items hung on them.

Some tattoo artists used adult porn videos to teach themselves how to pierce as these were the only videos available showing piercings being done, mostly the extreme porn sections.

By the 1990’s these piercings were starting to be done more for aesthetics and as the different designs in jewellery came on the market with segment rings and barbells with larger balls. These piercings don’t stretch as easily as the inner labia and so bead rings were the first popular and then the Ball closure ring and now many wearers will change to segment rings for comfort once healed.

At Body Pleasure Piercing we have found that when doing multiple outer labia it is best not to do them directly opposite each other as they can rub on each other and cause irritation and we will generally stager them so that they sit comfortably.

These piercings do make the area around the piercing slightly more sensitive but not a lot they are more aesthetic for the wearer and depending on ring size they can be stimulating for the partner

Isabella

The Isabella is deep piercing going through behind the clitoris and through the clitoral hood in a vertical direction. It sits comfortably with the body and is an effective piercing for those who lack sensation. It pushes the clitoris forward and therefore enhances sensation. It is placed between the clitoris and the urethra and so a good knowledge of anatomy and how to place this piercing is essential. This should only be attempted by a very experienced piercer.

The Isabela heals quite quickly and when numbed with the liquid numbing that we use at Body Pleasure Piercing is not as painful as you would think.

The bar should not be placed too high up on the clitoral hood or it will pull forward and become uncomfortable to the wearer.

Forchette / Perineal

This is not a popular piercing and is done more for the partner. This is placed between the anus and vaginal opening in the tissue that stretches a lot during childbirth. It is rarely done to increase feeling for the wearer but it will rub on her partner A slightly larger gauge is recommended as this piercing will stretch easily due to the tissue in this area. A larger gauge will be better for the partner.

They heal well and have few complications.

Horizontal Hood

The horizontal hood was in the 1980’s and early 1990’s a lot more popular than the verticle one because it could be done with a Bead ring or ball closure ring and the bead could sit on the clitoris to give stimulation to the wearer.

However, this piercing only really works well if the woman has very small outer labia because if the outer labia are large it will twist the ring and become painful. Which is why the vertical hood became more popular.

Triangle

The Triangle is another newer piercing and as women are taking control of their own enjoyment from the 1980’s this piercing has been one of the more commonly done female genital piercings, it is often coupled with the vertical clitoral hood so there is a piercing vertically above the clitoris and horizontally below it.

This piercing is placed behind the clitoris horizontally and aids the wearer by pushing the clitoris forward and enhancing sensation. It is placed in a ‘triangle’ of soft tissue between the clitoris and the urethra and has few nerves and so this area numbs well and it is a relatively painless piercing . Only a piercer with a good knowledge of anatomy should do this piercing.
